Burn Permits
Debris Burn Tips
Open burning seasons in spring and fall are a great time to clear vegetation and reduce wildfire risk. But careless debris burning is the #1 cause of wildfires on the Flathead Reservation. Whether burning during open season or with a required permit, always take precautions to keep your fire safe and controlled.
🔥 Before You Burn:
Check the burn schedule and permit requirements.
Burn early in the day and avoid hot or windy weather.
Clear 10 feet around your pile and keep piles small.
Have water, tools, and enough people on site.
Never leave your fire—make sure it’s cold to the touch before leaving, and re-check the next day.
⚠️ If your fire escapes, call 911 immediately. You are responsible for all suppression and property costs.

Our Fire District
The Rollins Rural Fire District serves a dedicated stretch of Lake County, Montana, providing vital fire protection and emergency response across a rugged, forested landscape. Officially established in 1989, the district was born out of community initiative and continues to thrive through a combination of taxpayer support and generous donations. Our coverage area includes residences, campgrounds, and wildland-urban interface zones, all requiring specialized equipment and trained volunteers to respond swiftly and effectively.

Fire Hall Expansion Project
The Rollins Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) serves communities all along the West Shore of Flathead Lake, including mutual aid for neighboring communities in both Flathead and Lake Counties. We are currently expanding our RVFD Fire Station, which is home to our volunteer firefighters, our equipment, trucks and engines, as well as serving as a centrally located operational base to all West Shore emergencies. Part of our expansion includes adding a dedicated lighted Landing Zone pad for emergency helicopters.
